Road workers found this cute little lizard, brought it home to me I don't know what to feed it! help!!?

The guys were digging, found a nest from what they said, because there were four or five that did not survive the shovels. But the guy is in lust with this critter and wants to keep it, I do not know anything about this cute little lizard but, he has to eat! If I get ants, will the big red ones kill him? What do I do?
